“Read in the name of your Lord…” Surah Iqra.

This was the first ayah sent to the Prophet (SAW), as well as the first ayah sent to humankind. Verily, it was in Ramadan, on the day of Laylatul Qadr, that the Qur’an was revealed. As the famous narration mentions that, the Prophet (SAW) was contemplating and praying for answers, when Angel Jibreel (AS) appeared. Jibreel (AS) then commanded the Prophet (SAW) to read, but he couldn’t, due to being illiterate. The Angel asked 3 times and squeezed him on the third time, until he was miraculously, able to read the verses of the Qur’an.

The Qur’an was then revealed in stages over the next 23 years, until the death of Rasulullah (SAW).

In this holy month of Ramadan, let us contemplate upon the ayat of the Qur’an. It is our criterion and provides for us the answer to everything. This month is the month of the Qur’an so let’s maxmise our use of it.

“The month of Ramadan [is that] in which was revealed the Qur’an, a guidance for the people and clear proofs of guidance and criterion” Surah Baqarah 2:185
